Even so, you can take other steps to properly protect your decorative concrete surfaces from unnecessary damage. Here are some tips that will help to protect your floors and extend their life.

Avoid De-icing Salts

It is especially important to avoid these salts the first winter after you install your decorative concrete floor. But even beyond that, you should minimize the usage of these salts, as they do have a corrosive effect over time.

Reapply Sealer

If the surface loses its sheen and begins to dull over time, recoat it with a sealer to restore its shine. Ask Us for a recommendation on the best sealer to use on your decorative concrete surface. For maximum protection, you should plan on resealing your concrete every one to two years.

Polish Indoor Surfaces

If your indoor decorative concrete floor receives a lot of foot traffic, you should maintain the sealed surface to prevent patterns of wear and tear. You can do this by applying a floor wax or polish for extra protection.  

Clean with Household Detergent

Your can easily clean your floor with any biodegradable household detergent and warm water. Scrub and rinse it thoroughly to remove the residue. If you have an indoor surface with drainage, you can use a mop, a carpet-cleaning machine, a steam cleaner or a wet/dry vac on the floor. On outdoor surfaces, you can use a hose or pressure washer set to low with a maximum pressure of 1500 psi.

Remove Stains as They Occur

Concrete floors are typically stain resistant but not stain proof. The sooner you remove a stain, the easier it is to remove.

You can clean tree sap or tar with a product such as Goo Gone or Dissolves-It. Finish by rinsing the decorative concrete clean. Remove tire marks or other stains with a degreaser. Once again, be sure to rinse any product off thoroughly after cleaning.

Use Furniture Pads

If you place any furniture on your decorative cement surface, use protective caps on the feet of the furniture.
